Vantawng Falls

The Vantawng Falls (called “Vantawng Khawhthla” in Mizo language) is located between Thenzawl and Buangpui village in Serchhip district. It is the highest uninterrupted waterfall in Mizoram.

It is located not far from the National highway connecting Aizawl and Lunglei. The site is well maintained by the Tourism department, Government of Mizoram and can be easily reached by road. People flock from all directions to have a look at its might and beauty. The waterfalls is located in the Vanva River near Thenzawl which is known for its rampaging speed of flow. Vantawng is a testament to the amazing natural beauty that is hidden within the North-East.

World’s Largest Family

Recorded in the Guinness Book of World Record as the World’s Largest Family, the joint family is headed by Pu Ziona, who is the father of 72 children and husband to 39 wives. The extraordinary family lives in Chhuanthar Tlangnuam (Baktawng Tlangnuam) village in Serchhip District, 70 Kms from Aizawl. The family owns Jhums, Orchards, Furniture Workshops, Manufactures Aluminium Utensils and are known for their self sufficiency, craftsmanship, hardwork and entrepreneurship skills.

Chana, who inherited the baton from his late brother Khuangtuaha. After Chana died on 27th February, 1997, the leadership of the sect was taken over by his eldest son Ziona.

The administration of the settlement is so complete that besides the religious aspect of the unit, the sect have their own schools called Chhuanthar Primary School, Chhuanthar Students House (Middle School & High School), Chhuanthar Higher Secondary School and a playground they call Chhuanthar Stadium. Ziona lives with his large extended family in a big house called “Chhuanthar Run”.

Thenzawl Deer Park

This Deer Park started in the year 1994 by the department of Environment & Forest, Government of Mizoram. It is located in Thenzawl village near Serchhip town and is the only park of its kind in Mizoram. This deer park is focusing on the species of deer called “Sambar Deer”. This project started with a vision to preserve deer as this species of animal has become one among the endangered animal species.

Thenzawl Deer Park is a recognized Mini Zoo by the Central Zoo Authority of India under Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 38H.

Pony Riding

Pony Riding entertainment at Thenzawl is an interesting place to visit within Serchhip district. The facility was set up by AH & Vety department, Government of Mizoram.

It is a very attractive place with wide open valleys where anyone can enjoy riding these ponies. There is a beautiful lake beside this pony riding facility, boats are available for anyone interested in boat riding.
